Refraction is a monthly experimental music and sound performance series that features emerging artists performing alongside established artists. It is dedicated to the support, mentorship and development of student projects as they take their practice from the classroom to the community.

Refraction first began in September 2009, in a bid to revive UTS student sound culture as Disorientation had done previously. The project is coordinated by Emily McDaniel and Jordan Dorjee, and supported by the UTS Sound Collective: a mixed bag of students, enthusiasts, artists and electronic abusers.

The project is proudly supported by Sound Travellers, touring arts organization. Refraction is assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
